How to Fix – Windows could not connect to the System Event Notification Service service
Sometimes Windows gives error after a restart without any obvious reason. One such error that occurred was “Windows could not connect to the System Event Notification Service service. Please consult your system administrator.” . This error can cause problems like disabling the Aero interface of Windows and preventing users from going online. Fixing this error though is actually quite easy.
How to Fix – Windows could not connect to the System Event Notification Service service
Click Start button
Navigate to Programs > Accessories and find Command Prompt
Right Click on Command Prompt and choose Run as Administrator
Click Yes to the UAC prompt is applicable
Navigate to the windows system32 folder (type cd c:\windows\system32)
Type netsh to start the netsh prompt
Now enter winsock reset
Close the cmd prompt window and restart the computer to fix the problem
Alternative Fix (if the above method didn’t fix the problem)
Click Start
Enter Services
Right click on Services and run as administrator
Check the services window to find System Event Notification Service
Ensure that the startup type is set to Automatic. You can also stop and start the service here.
